I Like Smiling – J.M.Lamkin Today I turned off my music.   I thought about changing it But instead I chose to be quiet. I sat for a moment and endured the scare That thing that jumps on you And tries to strangle your soul That fear that rattles your mind Screams that you HAVE to drown it out Or it will overtake you and break you You know that feeling The loudness of quiet And the rushing onslaught of nothing With the lack of stimulus My brain set about asking things Crazy things that made no sense With no one else around I asked myself the questions The hard ones that whispered and then yelled I wondered WHY I wonder

I looked into my glass this day And had a thought of you Swirling bug within my essence Struggling to be true. A finger in to fetch you out Produced not but frustration You swirl around inside of me Spoiling my libations. Pour another and then again Dousing of the senses It matters not what end it is I cannot cross the fences. So swirl the glass and drink it down Some protein for my flesh   I can't escape this ghost of you Though I try my best. Mix the drink and knock it back Beginning to end and begin again Different flavors all the same Once they meld within. You float within my brandy As I drink I shiver slightly The s
